Amazing Memorial Days, aren’t they? Some died. Some didn’t. Some could and some just couldn’t. Bu there’s no way to hold back bravery whatever the outcome. I can see why one of your responders this day was too teared to be there…
Thanks again to you and all the many who served. And so many returning were ill-treated upon return. Many thought the conflict should never have started than, as MacArthur said, “We’ll push them all into the East China Sea.
We also had 56 classmate serving those years, Jack Schmidt. He flew gunned-helicopter into the field with new troops and relieving those in need and those injured. Lots of close settings. Praise God he never was hit.
As for me, I taught math at senior high those dates and the gov wanted us to keep doing it…some left our classes as seniors and entered the services, too. The math was good for counting your ammunition 🙂
ME, TOO…..AND EVEN AT ST. MIKE’S FOR GRADE SCHOOL. HE PROTECTED KIDS FROM OLDER BULLIES. HIS RIGHT CROSS THREAT STOPPED MOST, PLUS A FEW THAT WERE DELIVERED BY HIM AND RARELY AGAIN. HIS DAD AND MY DAD WERE GOOD BUDDIES….I HAD NO THREATS. 🙂
A friend in need, a friend indeed.
What a wonderful story that makes me very proud. These are the stories that need to be told, because everyone can relate to the everyday guy. Never forget.
I do remember this post, Don. It is an outstanding, honorable post for such a commemorative day!
Yes it is, GP. I imagine your thoughts of Smitty are many today.
Yes, indeed they sure are!
